Photoatlas of Inclusions in Gemstones – Volume 3
Volume 3 completes the monumental Photoatlas of Inclusions in Gemstones series, focusing on the most commercially important gems and further expanding the documentation of internal characteristics observable under the microscope.
The central section of the volume is dedicated to the five major commercial gems:
Diamond, corundum, ruby, sapphire, and emerald.
For these materials, numerous inclusions and internal characteristics from various locations are presented, with particular attention to elements useful for characterizing the gem, recognizing its origin, and identifying treatments or synthetic processes.
One of the most important aspects of this volume is the extensive documentation of synthetic and treated gemstones. Examples of materials subjected to various treatments are illustrated, including treated rubies and sapphires, treated diamonds, filled emeralds, and synthetic rubies or sapphires, showing the microscopic characteristics that can reveal their nature or the process they underwent.
The section dedicated to diagnostic characteristics also explores diagnostic inclusions, the color and morphology of included minerals, fluid inclusions, and geological correlations, connecting microscopic observation to the determination of gemstone origin and understanding its formation context
The volume continues with an extensive review of rare and less common gemstones, including:
Andalusite, apatite, axinite, benitoite, calcite, cordierite, danburite, diopside, ekanite, enstatite, fluorite, glass, gypsum, kornerupine, pezzottaite, sapphirine, scapolite, sillimanite, sinhalite, spodumene, and taaffeite.
The combination of technical texts and a vast collection of photomicrographs makes this volume particularly valuable for direct comparison of inclusions and for the study of more complex or less frequently encountered materials in gemological practice.
Volume 3 thus completes the series: from inclusions of the most important gems on the market to the rarest materials, including synthetics, treatments, new localities, and geological correlations.
Ideal for: professional gemologists, laboratories, advanced students, researchers, dealers, and collectors of rare gems.
